W hen does a blog become a blag? Lagging so far behind in promised content, I seem to have drifted too far from the Sawdust and Dirt shores these days. The last post from last week was titled something like “Results, Pt. 1″ or something to that effect. I can’t remember! Sorry I implied that I would continue with a Part II…But I did manage to publish a lot of the pots in this Facebook Album . While you’re there check out the Barnyard Pottery Experiment . I need to get a pottery wheel. I have a garden and its a lot cheaper to make the pots by hand. Where can i get a pottery wheel that is really cheap that centers only about 7 lbs. I dont want a kid one I need a proffesional wheel that centers small. Oh please dont go over 100 and please try to stay under 50 i dont have much money.
Look on Ebay. Good luck!
Does anybody know how to throw miniature pottery on the wheel? I am still fairly new at throwing and I have a passion for miniature things. I would like to learn how to throw mini pots. Any tips would be appreciated! Thanks.
The most obvious point is to build a bridge across the large wheel and add a small diameter plaster bat to make a raised wheel that you can get at with small tools and your fingers. Resting way out on the rim of a large wheel is going to destroy accuracy. This search, besides showing your question, should lead you to some clues as to how others do it. http://www.google.com/search?q=throwing+miniature+pots&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

My approach, and maybe potters everywhere, relies on a certain momentum. Clay dries or stays damp, depending on the weather. A potter walks through the shop pushing their finger into so

B a Pepper Instead of making all of those jugs, bottles, and pitchers today, I realized all of the shelves were full and there was no place to put the table pots! So I loaded a bisque kiln with a lot of these plates that have to be scrubbed, first! This is what I use to take the burr or edge off of the rim cut plates. It’s simply a green scrubbie pad. I got this tip from Shawn Ireland while we were residents together over at Penland back in the salad days, (1998-2001). I do the scrubbing whe

click on images to see larger version. Just got this card in the mail and it reminded me how much and why I love the NC Pottery Center . Here’s a beautiful facility that is home to a wonderful collection of pots, old and new. Here’s a venue for a showing of pots from our great state’s pottery tradition and how these pots have been interpreted by the Garner’s! If you’d like to be a part of this wonderful organization, they would love to have you as a member. From the card: click on
