Having just returned from a pottery trip to southern China I wanted to put up a slide show of a Traditional Dragon Kiln and potters working in the town of Chao Zhou. The colors of the fly ash from this kiln are indescribable . This is found art at its best ! This work needs to be celebrated and the potters honored for keeping alive this amazing tradition .

La Fuente Imports takes you back in time and offers pottery pieces recreated by the work of Cuzco/Incan artist Orfa Salazar. Centuries ago Cuzco, Peru was the capital of the Inca Empire, and pottery during this period was created exclusively for the ruling class. Orfa recreates this masterful pottery and collects clay near Cuzco as in ancient times. He uses the traditional coil method or turning on a wheel to create his pottery shapes. Each piece is unique, made completely by hand, and fired in a wood-burning adobe kiln to approximately 900 degrees. The artist decorates each piece by painting with natural colorful pigments. Each piece is finished with a coat of vegetable varnish. The result is incredibly detailed pottery as vibrant and rich in culture as in the Incan Empire, but now available exclusively for your home.

I was wondering if anybody knew anything about pottery wheels i want to buy one but i don’t know which kind is the best deal and what clay i should get if i don’t have a kiln. I live in san marcos, tx so if there is any place in austin i should go to buy please do tell or i’m willing to order online. THANK YOU
There is no point in getting a pottery wheel if you don’t have a kiln to fire the clay unless you plan on making stuff and air drying it and keeping it inside where it will be dusty and fragile, as unfired clay is very weak.
A pottery wheel depends on water and wet clay for movement under the hands so other forms of clay will not work.
It sounds as though you have an interest but have not taken a class or do not have someone to ask questions, so I would strongly suggest you find someone. Kilns are available for firing at places that give classes.
Wheels are available used because people buy stuff with less experience that you have and discover their limits.
Armadillo Clay http://www.armadilloclay.com/ is a major resource for potters in mid Texas and they can give you advice and connect you will people who offer classes and services.
