Ordering/Buying pottery/ceramics clay?

By: admin
Published: September 12th, 2008

Does anyone know where I can buy clay for my pottery wheel? I only throw at my highschool but I recently bought a wheel and need clay to throw at home. I don't know where my school orders the clay we use from. So does anyone know where I can get it? I live in Spokane, WA.

Seatte Pottery Supply is a major source of ceramic supplies nationally http://www.seattlepotterysupply.com/ I have ordered some things from them down here in Texas, but shipping clay is expensive. You might look for someone even more local to you in Spokane. Places like Hobby Lobby and Michaels are carrying 25# boxes of white potters clay, but if you want other types you will want suppliers like SPS.
A quick web search returns the Clay Connection in Spokane
714 E Sprague Ave Spokane, WA 99202 (509) 747-6171
which certainly ought to be a source of information if not clay.
Can't find a web site but equipment is sold at
North Star Ceramic Center 714 East Sprague Spokane, WA 99202 (509) 747-6171
Look at this list

Is there a way to glaze pottery and bake it in your own oven or do i need a kiln?

By: admin
Published: September 12th, 2008

So i wanted to buy some pottery at Michael's or Rag Shop and paint it, but i wanted to know if i must use a kiln or can i bake it in a normal oven?

If you have a piece that has already been bisque fired, you can buy various stains that will glaze the piece without need of a second firing.

One option is the Duncan line of bisque stains. You can then seal them with a clear ceramic sealer to the shine level you desire. These items are available on many online shops.

If you are using something – like a tile or plate – that already has a glaze, even just clear, on it, you can use enamels – found in most craft stores – my Michael's carries them. You can then bake the enamel in your oven and it becomes a permanent part of your piece. These are great for touching up plain pieces and even covering mistakes.

Do hand made pottery items such as ornaments and photo frames, sell on ebay?

By: admin

My hobby is making cute animal ornaments and themed photo frames using salt dough. I really want to sell them and i wanted to know if people would actually buy these sorts of things on ebay or would they rather buy pottery from names such as clarice cliff or poole pottery?

YEAH!

Does anybody know anything about the "mayolica" pottery in Santa Rosa, Guanajuato Mexico?

By: admin
Published: September 12th, 2008

I visited the area and bought some pottery, but now I want to buy something else to be shipped to the states, I only have a phone number but does not work, any information provided will be appreciated.

Do you live near the California US/Mexican border? If so, you can find a variety of mayolica made by Santa Rosa Pottery in Guanajuato if you visit Ensenada. There are at least two shops that deal Santa Rosa mayolica in that city. Prices are the same as what you would find in Guanajuato.
